Oh my gosh, you guys. I am seriously tearing up writing this right now. So just bear with me as I get all gushy about a company that went above and beyond (especially after I made a massive mistake) and how, during one of the hardest times of my life, I was given grace upon grace. I'm serious. They didn't tell me to write any of this - actually, I asked permission to include what happened in this post, because I just had to share it with you guys.
Blogging and influencer marketing can be a cutthroat world sometimes and you pretty much have one shot to get it right. I decided a long time ago to only work with brands and businesses that I can honestly stand behind and support and the story I'm about to tell you just confirms that I've had the opportunity to partner with some truly incredible companies.
Okay, so... Freshly meal service. You guys know that I partnered with them this past summer and LOVED them. I cook from scratch every night, so I am super particular (and somewhat judgy HAHA) of pre-made dinners and such because, let's be honest, they usually don't taste very good. But I was sooo pleasantly surprised when I opened the box from Freshly and the meals were DELICIOUS. Oh my wooord. Legitimately delicious.
Fast forward to last month - it was a super busy time in our lives and I reached out to the company again so see if we could collaborate a second time. To my delight, they said yes! I picked out which ones we wanted (so hard to choose, for real) and they scheduled our meal delivery for November 30th! That was that!
Well, on November 28th, I received a call that my Grandma had a massive tumor in her stomach (which turned out to be Stage 4 cancer) and was hospitalized - chaos ensued. It was a whirlwind couple of days, trying to pack everything (and seriously, how do you pack for one adult and 2 children for a MONTH or longer anyways?? Answer: it's impossible) and make all necessary arrangements. Everything else I had planned flew out the window - and out of my head.
Like those meals. So, when my husband called and told me the meals had been delivered and I was no longer at our home, I honestly thought I might throw up.. I was so sick about the fact that I had forgotten they were coming! And obviously, there was no way for me to take a picture of the food when I was 1800 miles away.
With a pit in my stomach, I emailed the company and explained the situation to them, apologizing profusely and asked if they would be willing to just send one, single meal to the address here in California so I could at least post (while my husband enjoyed actually eating all 12 meals back home haha) or I offered to pay for the meals since I wasn't able to uphold my end of the contract.
I waited nervously for a response.. and do you know what they said?
"No worries at all, Brenae. We understand completely." AND THEN, they told me to send my new address and choice of meals and they would ship ANOTHER ENTIRE BOX of meals to us here in California.
Umm, WHAT?? (insert sobbing emoji here)
What kind of company does that, y'all?! FRESHLY, that's who. My grandma actually passed away on the 9th and during a time when our budget is tight as my husband and I "live" in two different states, grocery shopping is not a priority and honestly, meal planning and then actually COOKING the meals seems trite and painful.. having ready-made, healthy, YUMMY food that I can grab and eat (and feed my children).. well, that's just priceless.
I actually cried when I got their return e-mail and told them that they would never know just how much of a blessing this is and how thankful I was for their understanding. At a time when I didn't necessarily deserve grace, and when Freshly could've, honestly, just sent me one single meal to complete the contract, they didn't. Instead, they went above and beyond and it will truly never be forgotten.
Anyways, I just had to share this story, y'all. It's a week later and I still can't believe it. I love that I get to support amazing companies like this one and I hope you get a chance to try out their meals soon! You can actually use the code dlvr639 to get $20 off a 6-meal plan! Let me know if you give it a shot - I think you will love them as much as I do!!!! <3
